Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor of Chemistry

Penn State Wilkes-Barre invites applications for Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor of Chemistry. This is a 36 week, limited-term, multi-year appointment to begin August 2022 with potential for re-appointment.

Responsibilities include:
  • Teach introductory Chemistry lectures and related labs each semester to science majors and general education students using traditional, hybrid and online delivery methods
  • Teaching assignments may require teaching day, evening and/or Saturday classes as needed
  • Participate in course, curriculum, and program development
  • Advise students and provide career guidance
  • Participate in campus, university, and community service activities
  • Engage in activities to stay current in the discipline

This position will be filled as either a Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor. A Masters degree in Chemistry or related field is required to be considered for the rank of Lecturer. A Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field is required to be considered for the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor; willing to consider ABD with appointment based on degree held at time of hiring. Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment is desired. Interest in active and collaborative learning, the instructional use of technology, and hybrid and online teaching is an advantage. Prior college-level and online teaching experience required. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment is important.

Penn State Wilkes-Barre is one of more than 20 Penn State campuses state-wide. It is a student-centered campus of approximately 400 students; about 20% are adult learners. The coursework for the first two years of more than 275 Penn State baccalaureate majors is offered, as well as nine baccalaureate degrees and four associate degrees. The Chemistry lab was completely renovated in 2019.

Students and faculty at Penn State Wilkes-Barre have all of the resources of a major research university at their disposal, but in a small college atmosphere. Class sizes are small and the student/faculty ratio is low, so students can receive much individual attention. Our faculty members are committed to providing a high-quality educational experience to their students and are actively engaged in research. Our students receive a world-class education delivered in a small campus setting and have opportunities to participate in undergraduate research projects supervised by faculty members.
