Chemistry Full-Time Lecturer Position Available:
The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at University of Detroit Mercy in the College of Engineering & Science invites candidates to apply for a full-time Lecturer position for instruction of general and organic chemistry lectures/laboratory courses. This is a non-tenure track, but continuous employment fulltime faculty position. The candidate hired will start January 2023 or August 2023. As a primarily undergraduate institution (PUI), Detroit Mercy offers small classes and close collegial relationships. The College's faculty forms a vibrant community of teaching scholars, with a strong focus on professional and academic mentorship of students. We are particularly interested in candidates who will contribute to our efforts to provide support and opportunities for historically minoritized students to pursue research careers in chemistry and related areas. These efforts are currently being supported by a BUILD grant from the National Institutes of Health (https://eng-sci.udmercy.edu/research/rebuildetroit.php).



The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Detroit Mercy includes 15 full-time faculty members who engage in scientific research, mentorship, and student-advising for students within the College of Engineering and Science. The Department serves approximately 100 undergraduate Chemistry & Biochemistry majors as well as Biology, Engineering, Nursing, and Dental Hygiene majors. The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry also provides accelerated and early assurance programs in cooperation with the Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, the Michigan State College of Human Medicine, the University of St. Joseph (CT) School of Pharmacy, and the Wayne State University Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.



Applicants must have a strong interest in implementing best practices in pedagogy including evidence-based teaching and assessment strategies. In addition, we seek an educator who is an enthusiastic teacher-scholar committed to supporting the diverse population of undergraduate students we are seeking to attract.



Teaching responsibilities will include general and organic chemistry lecture and laboratory courses and potentially other courses based on area of expertise that complement or expand current offerings in the department.


Required
⦁ Master's degree or Ph.D., or equivalent in Chemistry or Chemical Education, conferred by start date.
⦁ Experience teaching chemistry in higher education or relevant educational setting
