Job Title: Senior Information Science Professional

Job Summary:

Senior Information Science Professionals utilize applied or computational mathematical analyses for a wide array of different applications and to solve complex problems. Experiments may include text interpretation, coding, ground theory methodology for the analysis of certain data, and quantum state analyses. Senior Information Science Professionals may also perform duties in labs that use primarily electronic equipment. Some Assignments will not move beyond this level.

This Information Sciences Professional will join a growing multi-disciplinary team working at the intersection of epidemiology, biostatistics, multi-omic data analysis, and rheumatology. Half of this position will be devoted to the NIH-funded research program of Jill Norris, using integrative analyses of high-dimensional multi-omics to provide insight into the development and progression of rheumatoid arthritis. The other half of this position will consist of providing bioinformatic and biostatistical support to researchers within the Division of Rheumatology who perform translational research on autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders in the area of bioinformatics and data analysis.
  • Perform scientifically rigorous data management and bioinformatic analyses.
  • Develop and implement complex analyses pipelines, programming, and data visualization techniques for multi-layered -omics datasets (transcriptome, epigenome, proteome, microbiome, etc.).
  • Creatively and effectively integrate data from multiple sources to accelerate discoveries.
  • Assist with the design and development of major bioinformatics-related programming projects.
  • Write custom scripts to access databases and analyze data.
  • Independently and creatively identify bioinformatic and data management solutions.
  • Provide the biostatistical/data science expertise and leadership in study design, study oversight, data management, data analysis and manuscript preparation to assist all levels of biomedical investigators and clinicians on new research activities across a wide range of disciplines.
  • Serve as a resource to PIs and other stakeholders.
  • Assist in the design and conduct of new studies.
  • Perform data cleaning and association testing.
  • Process, map, and perform QC on newly collected raw sequencing data files (e.g. single-cell RNA-seq, microbial shotgun metagenomic sequencing, ATAC-seq).
  • Develop new analytical pipelines and maintain existing workflows.
  • Assist in disseminating findings through preparation of abstracts, oral and poster presentations, and scientific manuscripts.

Work Location:

Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of # days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
  • Two (2) years data management and bioinformatic analyses experience.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field
  • One (1) to four (4) years of experience analyzing data using high-performance or cloud-based computing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Advanced knowledge of basic statistical principles relevant in medical research.
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems and apply quantitative analytical approaches.
  • Demonstrated fluency in one or more programming languages (e.g., R, Python, Perl, Java, C++) and willingness to learn new programming languages as necessary.
  • Familiarity with statistical analytical concepts and methods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $59,840 - $76,116.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
