ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY
Technical Instructor Fire Science

ABOUT THIS POSITION

Summary: The instructor, reporting to the Fire Science Program Director, is responsible for teaching Fire Science curriculum. The instructor is also responsible for class and equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies/equipment as needed. This is a full-time faculty appointment with administrative duties. A 6-credit hour release will be provided to the instructor per year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Teach and advise students in the Fire science program.
  • Review, maintain and update program curriculum as required by business, industry and in accordance with Higher Learning Commission requirements.
  • Recommend, monitor and update program outcomes and assessments.
  • Recommend semester course schedules and coordinate scheduling of courses with the Director of Instruction.
  • Recruit, select, supervise, mentor, and evaluate Fire Science instructors.
  • Maintain good working relationships with local, state, and federal agencies involved with the Fire Science program and serve as a CMU liaison to the fire science community.
  • Prepare and submit program-related reports and agreements for approval; maintain program-related records.
  • Schedule facilities to include field activities and the use of facilities and apparatus of fire agencies.
  • Maintain necessary professional and educational credentials and currency appropriate to teaching assignments; apply for CTE credential within 6 months of employment.
  • Create an effective learning environment for students while using appropriate resources, technology, and pedagogy in the delivery of courses.
  • Order supplies and maintain and store fire equipment and apparatus.
  • Evaluate student performance in coursework and make necessary provisions to meet learning needs.
  • Work with student organizations, which include coordinating students for competitions and events.
  • Assist in recruiting and retention of students.
  • Maintain student grades and attendance.
  • Monitor lab competencies and confirm skill levels.
  • Promote a positive collegiate atmosphere.
  • Develop and maintain program advisory committee (2 meetings a year).
  • Assist with open houses and orientation.
  • Maintain student files with required paperwork as well as intent to graduate forms.
  • Maintain and manage program budget.
  • Perform all responsibilities and instructional duties in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding the practice of fire science, as well as CMU policies and procedures.


Required Qualifications:
  • 2000 hours (approximately 2 years' full time) of related occupational experience within the past 7 years
  • Basic computer skills and strong communication skills



Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate degree in Fire Science or related field from an accredited institution
  • 5 years Full time experience as a Fire Fighter
  • Colorado Fire Service Instructor Level I certification
